| Guess what's coming up in about a month? My birthday! I'm going to be 25. The big quarter century. The downside of 50. Yikes, sounds old. Every year I keep thinking, "Ok, this is the age when people will stop thinking I'm a baby and start taking me seriously." But I'm starting to think that won't happen until I turn 35. That's cool, I guess. I'll just keep using my 20s as an excuse to run around and have fun. But anyway, I do have a list of cool things I want for my birthday, if anyone's interested!
So, I've been kinda bored lately, and when I'm bored I watch Dr. Phil. Today's episode is totally crazy. Dr. Phil has basically made his own little reality show with a house full of people who hate each other. There's a fat guy who hates skinny people, a skinny girl who hates fat people, a white supremacist, an older black woman, a lesbian, a homophobe...now this is good television. These people are totally extreme, but watching the show kind of makes you look at your own prejudices. Muy interesante.
I don't really like cheap dark chocolate (i.e. Hershey's Special Dark), but I love those dark chocolate M&Ms. They're just like really rich M&Ms...which is good because it means I can't eat too many of them.
I think that's enough random thoughts for now.

| As you may well know, I recently stage managed a little show called The Memory of Water. I had fun with the cast and crew of this show. Some were more social than others, but everyone came out at least once or twice. But many evenings, it seemed, the only person I went out with was one of the actors, Bo (short for Borden). At first I didn't really want to hang out with just Bo because I thought we wouldn't have much to talk about. He's a 39-year-old actor. I'm a 24-year-old stage manager. But I got past it when I realized that he was really fun and that we actually had loads to talk about. So, we would go out to bars, and then we went to a baseball game, and then we went to a movie, and then we went to a play, and before you know it, I'm dating a guy who's 15 years older than me. Now if I just think "I'm dating Bo," that doesn't freak me out. But when I think, "I'm dating a guy who turns 40 in August," yeah that freaks me out a little bit. I think I feel this way because if any of my friends told me they were dating a guy who was 15 years older, I'd be like, "WHAT!? You're crazy! What's wrong with you? What's wrong with HIM?" But maybe that's just me. Let's take a look, shall we, at some other cross-generational couples.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones. 25 year gap. He was 56 when he married a 31-year-old. They've been together for about five years and have two kids.
Rod Stewart and Rachel Hunter. 25 year gap. They're in the process of settling their divorce. But good ol' Rod has already knocked up his new fiancee who is 26 years his junior.
Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky. 20 year gap. They met in the Betty Ford Clinic and got married at Neverland Ranch. Nothing like the blessing of Jack Daniels and Michael Jackson on a union.
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. 15 year gap. I have to admit, these two seem to have it together. And they have the same age gap as Bo and I, although the genders are reversed. The major difference here is that Demi is divorced and has three kids. Bo has never been married and has no kids. I don't think I could handle it if he had, like, a teenage daughter.
I'm not sure what the point of that was other than, despite the age difference, I think I'm more stable than these people. And I actually know some non-celebrity age-gap couples who have worked out just fine. My Uncle David married a girl who is I think about 11 years younger than him, and it really doesn't seem weird to me at all because they are so right for each other. Not that I'm ready to make a lifelong commitment to Bo. For goodness sakes, we're only dating!

| | Currently Watching Spider-Man 3 By Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace see related | Wow, I'm not used to all this free time. I mean, I have a day off every now and then, sometimes even two days off. But a day off is different somehow when you know you're going to be back at work in a matter of hours. I still have my part-time job at Ticket Central, but I tend to be scheduled there for a couple days in a row, and then I don't work the rest of the week. Now, usually the rest of that week is filled up with whatever I'm stage managing. But, see, I'm not stage managing anything right now. The last time I worked was Sunday and I'm not working again until this Friday. I don't know what to do with myself!
Well, I did have Dad here to visit for the past couple days and that was fun. He got here on Saturday and we met up for dinner before my show that evening, which he was able to come see. I had to work most of the day on Sunday, but I was able to get out of work a little early so we could go see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
That was SO much fun. It's playing at the Circle in the Square Theatre, which is a pretty unique space, as Broadway theatres go. The seats surround the stage on three sides, in sort of a stadium style. Which works out great since they make the stage look like a school gym. Dad went and got our tickets on the day of the show as "rush tickets". Sometimes the seats you get when you buy rush tickets aren't great. But our seats turned out to be in the very first row! The actors were literally inches away from us, and spent a lot of time running in and out of the audience. It was definitely the most unique theatre experience I've had. And Dad and I both loved the show!
Yesterday we visited the Nintendo store to play Wii (I WILL own one...soon) and the Apple store, where Dad bought himself an iPod shuffle. And, of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a trip to Serendipity. We also went to see Spiderman 3 in Imax, which was way cool. Today we finished off our visit, with lunch at the Boat Basin Cafe, where we spotted Giraldo Rivera! Mustache and all!

| Happy Memorial Day! Well, I'm a day late, but oh well. Memorial Day is one of those holidays that I don't really make plans for, but then I always end up having plans anyway. I actually had to work all day Sunday and Monday at Ticket Central, but when I got off work at 8 on Monday night, I found out that some of my friends were at the Boat Basin Cafe, which is right by my house, so I went to join them and had a great time. The weather was absolutely perfect, we had a table right by the water...it was a great way to spend the holiday.
And the holiday fun continues tonight...I'm going to a Mets game! Yes, I'm a Mets fan. I adopted them as my team when I moved here last year. It turned out to be a good choice because they're doing much better than the Yankees. I'm going with my friend Bo, who actually is a Yankees fan, but he's being a good friend and going with me anyway.
It looks like I might finally have a little break from stage managing...my first since last August. The Memory of Water closes on June 2nd, and after that I have nothing lined up. I think it will be nice to have a little time off, but I have to be careful what I wish for. I don't want to be out of work for too long!
